Shahabuddin granted bail

Patna: A division bench of Patna high court comprising Justice Anjana Prakash and Justice Rajendra Kumar Mishra on Wednesday granted bail to former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin in a case of double murder around 11 years back in 2004 in Siwan. Despite bail, Shahabuddin will remain in jail in connection with other cases.
Shahabuddin had filed an appeal before the division bench after rejection of his bail petition by a single bench of Patna high court last month.

The single bench had on February 3 rejected his bail petition.
In December last year, the court of additional district judge, Siwan, Ajay Kumar Srivastava, had awarded life sentence to Shahabuddin and his three accomplices - Rajkumar Sah, Sheikh Aslam and Arif Hussain - in connection with the 2004 case, in which two brothers - Girish Raj and Satish Raj - were given acid death and killed. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Shahabuddin in the case. The special court had called it a rarest of rare case.
